Air Conditioning Repair, Installation & Maintenance in Southern Maryland

Cooling a home near the Chesapeake means fighting humidity as much as heat. Continental Services has handled air conditioning for Southern Maryland families for over 40 years, and every side of that work lives here: AC repair when a system quits, seasonal maintenance to keep it from quitting, and installation and replacement when it has reached the end of its life. As an authorized Ruud Pro Partner we service all makes and models, whoever installed them.

AC Repair

Warm air at the vents, a unit that runs without cooling, ice on the coil, or a breaker that keeps tripping. We diagnose the actual fault rather than swapping parts, and carry a broad parts inventory so many repairs finish on the first visit.

AC Maintenance & Tune-Ups

A spring tune-up covers coil cleaning, refrigerant charge verification, electrical testing and condensate drain clearing. It is also what most manufacturer warranties require in the way of documented professional service.

AC Installation & Replacement

Sizing comes before equipment selection, not after. We look at the house rather than matching the tonnage of whatever is out there now, and we walk you through SEER ratings and system options in plain language.

Which Air Conditioning Service Do You Need?

Most calls we take fall into one of four situations:

No cooling right now. Start with AC repair. Our guide on why an AC is not cooling covers what to check before we arrive.

The system works but the house still feels damp. That is usually a sizing or airflow problem rather than a broken part, and a tune-up is the right first step.

Repairs are stacking up on an aging system. Ask us for the repair number and the replacement number together. Systems still running R-22 are the usual candidates.

Rooms the ductwork never reached. A ductless mini-split often solves an addition, sunroom or converted garage better than extending ducts.

Cooling a Home Near the Chesapeake

Bay-adjacent humidity changes what an air conditioner has to do here. Removing moisture matters as much as dropping the temperature, and it is the part an undersized or oversized system gets wrong.

Our technicians work across Calvert County and into St. Mary's and Anne Arundel, so the conditions below are ones we see every summer rather than general advice.

Oversizing Leaves Humidity Behind

A unit with too much capacity satisfies the thermostat quickly, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull moisture out. The house reads cool and still feels clammy.

Condensate Drain Failures

High moisture loads mean more condensate. Clogged drain lines and rusted pans are among the most common summer service calls we run, and annual maintenance prevents most of them.

Long Run Times, Faster Wear

Systems here run hard from June into September. Capacitors, contactors and blower motor bearings wear sooner than the equipment's rated life suggests.

R-22 Systems Nearing the End

Older systems charged with R-22 get expensive to keep running once a leak develops. We will tell you plainly when a replacement is the better use of the money.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the system is relatively young and the failed part is a common one such as a capacitor or contactor, repair is usually the better value. Once a unit needs repeated repairs in the same season, has a failing compressor, or still runs on R-22 refrigerant, replacement often costs less over the life of the equipment. We give you the repair figure and the replacement figure together so you can decide with real numbers rather than a recommendation.

Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 7AM to 4PM. While we don't run overnight emergency dispatch, we move no-cooling calls to the front of the line and aim for same-day service. Call 410-535-0091 and we will give you a realistic arrival window rather than an optimistic one.

Yes. We are an authorized Ruud Pro Partner, which means factory training on that line, but we service all makes and models regardless of who installed the equipment. Most of the systems we maintain across Calvert County were put in by somebody else.

Usually the system has more capacity than the house needs, so it satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it has run long enough to remove moisture. Low airflow from a dirty filter or restricted ductwork produces the same complaint. We measure airflow and verify the refrigerant charge before recommending anything, because the fix is often an adjustment rather than new equipment.
